Hi everyone,
Im worried that my 8 week olds nappies are very runny! Im a first time Mum and I have no idea what it normal and what's not! Hes on Aptimal. He has always fed really well and always was hungry. He was taking 6oz bottles every 3 to 4 hours. This past week and a half he will take some 6oz bottles without issues and the other bottles be will fuss over, agitated and might cry to say he doesnt want it. Any advice please?

When you say they are runny, how runny are they OP?

Dreamsunshine · 15/02/2020 10:45

Its hard to explain. He only has one dirty nappy a day and it seems to have a more watery consistency. I now feel like a sound like a terrible mother!

Why do you think you sound like a terrible mother? Terrible mothers do not come in here asking for advice. From experience, they just justify their awful behaviour and aren’t interested in changing.

Good mums however seek advice and want the best fir their LOs. I think that sounds more like what’s going on here, don’t you? Smile

Anyway, getting back to the feeding, I’d try a different formula. These boards have been full in the recent months with problems with Aptimil. Keep away from Cow & Gate too as it’s made in the same factory.

I’d try the Hipp Organic and there are lots of posters saying their baby was much happier on it.

Thank you. I will have a look at that formula. I had mentioned to the Health visitor a few weeks ago about changing his formula because he was having really bad windy cramps but she told me not to mess with his formula and that it could make things worse. The wind did seem to improve he just passes a lot of bottom wind now. I just definately dont think his bowel movements are right. They are definitely very watery. Thanks for your advice.

I’m surprised with the HV saying that, especially as there has been so many problems with that particular brand.

Does he ever have mucus in his poos?

Dreamsunshine · 15/02/2020 11:42

Oh flip I dont know... would it be really noticable?

It might look like patches of white in the poo?

Dreamsunshine · 15/02/2020 15:33

Sorry for the late reply. Definately dont think there has been any muscus. What would it mean if there was?

If there was mucus and he was windy, crying and maybe had stinky farts it could be an indication that he had CMPA rather than just having problems with his current brand of formula. Allergy UK have some information about it.

If you google mucus in nappies there are tonnes of images. These are the things they don’t tell you that you’ll be doing before you have a baby Grin

I found this useful when I first had DS.
Turns out he was teething early and it was alot of saliva in his poo.

Dreamsunshine · 15/02/2020 20:27

Thank you @JiltedJohnsJulie he does fart all the time, I mean all the time but they dont smell.

Now that I have googled images of muscus in baby poo his do look like that!

Thank you @RibenaMonsoon
We did wonder if there was some chance he was teething early because he has started to drool a lot and is constantly wanting to chew on his hand but I thought it has to be way too early.

We changed our baby from aptimal as it caused lots of trapped wind and the health visitor recommended us to change. I think it was due to the foamy layer/bubbles it forms on the top of the milk. We’re now using Aldi’s formula which has pretty much the same ingredients but is a lot less frothy and have had no problems. Xx
