7 week old sleeping too much?

Hi I’m a new mum and think I’m paranoid about everything but my LO turned 7 weeks on Tuesday and slept through the night without waking up to feed last night had fed 3 times since being awake but he falls alseep straight after his bottles, for a week or so he’s been quite awake and alert but the last 2 days he’s been sleeping more during the day. Is this normal?

Is he breastfed? If you're very concerned and you feel like his behaviour has changed, take him to the GP just to be sure.
My son had jaundice when he was 2 days old which we discovered because he was very drowsy and we were struggling to wake him even to feed - he just wanted to sleep.
Sleeping through the night early is certainly possible, but trust your instincts if you feel like something is strange you can never be too careful especially with a newborn. Hope everything is ok xxx

Agreed. No harm in seeing the GP. Don't mean to panic you, but DS2 had an undiagnosed heart issue and slept a lot. It was quickly fixed.

He’s bottle fed, he seems happy when he is awake but I will give the gp a call to see if it is anything else.

When you say sleep through the night how many hours do you mean? If it’s 12 hours I would definitely wake and feed. But if it’s 6-7 hours then that’s fine. My baby is breastfed and 9 weeks now. When she was 7 weeks she did her first 7 hour sleep! I could not believe it. It doesn’t happen all the time. But occasionally. Usually she wakes every 4-5 hours for feeds at night.

I personally wouldn't be worried.... My LO was sleeping 10pm-7am from about 8 weeks and she slept loads in the day as well.
Just be grateful you have one who likes his sleep! 😉

No it’s not 12 hours it was about 7 hours, he seems a lot happier now so don’t know if he’s going through a growth spurt aswell.

7 hours at that age isn't anything to be concerned about, you just have a good sleeper and you're v.lucky! My son was sleeping 11-7am at 10 weeks (although we had to gradually drop the night feed as opposed to him just not waking). But I would still say go to GP if you're at all concerned, but if he's happy and has energy today I really wouldn't be concerned.

My little girl is 8 weeks I haven't done a single night feed since she was 4 weeks. The minimum she will go of a night is 7 hrs before waking. We broke a record last night 11hrs.
I was worried initially as I was told not to allow them to go longer than 5 hrs without a feed. Also the health visitor was not impressed. I’d already spoken to my gp regarding her sleeping for so long during the night and not feeding. He said as long as she’s weeing, pooing and gaining weight leave her. I said to the health visitor, what do you want me to do! Set an alarm on my phone for 5 hrs after her last bottle ! If she don’t wake me up I’m not waking up. It’s ridiculous. Fab tho, have an 8 week old and feel like I’ve slept like a fairy princess every night haha xxx

That’s really good! He was more alert in the afternoon but again slept 6 hours straight last night so I’m not worried at the moment now.
