Pulling up to stand and walking

Hi, my son is 12months and can walk for 10-15 steps unaided until he falls... mostly straight backward which is a worry as he completely tips backwards! But never crawled, and will only use me to push up/pull up on to a stand, ive tried getting him to use the sofa, without the cushions on as i saw on a youtube video, the coffee table, various baby height toys, he just will not have it, but once he uses me and stands, he toddles off, i just dont understand why he wont use anything else?he jus cries and screams if i move him off me onto anthing else. He seems so less independant that my older daughter, who also never crawled but walked at 11months and was off, and could pull herself up and get herself about and alway used to fall forwards onto her hands and bum?
Any ideas how to help him pull or push up independantely and to help him balance? X

He will eventually. He's using you to pull up because he trusts that you won't move away from him. My son is 2 at the weekend and doesn't walk. He has only just started using the furniture to stand up in the last 2 months. Prior to that it was always a person. He just felt more secure knowing it was someone rather than something. He'll get there

That sounds fine. Average age for independent walking is 15 months so he’s actually on the early side. Dd was 15 months and ds at 17 months. I just left them to it. They all get it eventually.

Leave him be, he'll work it out on his own.

Thanks for everyones replies. Just hoping he gets there soon, as trying to cook tea is becoming a nightmare as he wants to toddle about but keeps falling then needs me to get back up again. C
