3 month old refusing bottle - advice?

Hi! I'm breastfeeding but my DS happily took bottle top ups from 3-7 weeks as he had a tongue tie and needed a bit of help. Got the tongue tie snipped at 6 weeks and from 7 weeks his feeding at the breast got so much quicker and now he just will not take a bottle at all any more!

When we try to give him one when he's really hungry he just screams which is horrible and when we try to give him one when he's not as hungry he just chews on the teat and smiles like he's playing. Occasionally he will drink but will take about 30 minutes to drink just 40-60ml. We've tried lansinoh and tommee tippee bottles with formula and expressed breast milk. My husband's tried with me hiding upstairs, I've tried - nothing makes a difference!

It's not a huge deal but it'd be nice to be able to leave him with grandparents for an evening occasionally - at the moment it just wouldn't be fair to put them and him through the stress!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You've probably tried this, but if he is just chewing the teat does he need a teat with quicker flow rate? Or milk that is hotter?
If not only another 3 months and he can be fed food Smile

You could try a sippy cup. My youngest would occasionally take milk from a cup but never bottles. Well done for persevering with breast feeding.

it sounds to me like bottle feeding is too much like hard work for him. Try changing the teat to a fast flow one or the bottle brand. Try anticipating when he’s going to be hungry (it’s a fine line between ok and ravenous but you need to catch him when he’s just peckish!!).

Thanks all! I will try switching teats and give a sippy cup a go...

We are having the same troubles but our little one is 17 weeks. Took bottle every night no problem since birth, but now refuses.
He had a break of 3 weeks from the bottle when I EBF due to wanting to maximise his antibodies when my partner was ill and then when he has a cold.
After those 3 weeks he now flat out refuses x

It's so annoying when you know they used to be fine with it! How do they just seem to forget..?!

Have you tried facing him out on your lap. So his head is on your chest. So don't use breastfeeding position basically. It's a weird one but seems to work often.
