Hiya. Our little girl is 5 and a half months. She has two teeth coming through and has woken up in a lovely happy mood but her right eye and cheek has swollen. She's happy enough and it's not swollen hugely but as new parents we are concerned.

We have two cats but as yet she's shown no signs of allergy. We are wondering if we should take her to the walk in centre. She also has a dry cough although this is only now n then but does seem to be becoming a little more frequent. If I don't reply straight away it's because we are looking after baby but really appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hi @Concernedhubby

I would take her to the walk in centre if it's open. I have never heard of teething causing a swollen eye. They should be able to reassure you. I also have a 5 month old, and at this age I just would get anything checked out to be on the safe side.

I'd take her. I'm pretty relaxed about most things but anything near the eye worries me.

Defo take her. Periorbital cellulitis (infection that can travel behind the eye) can be v dangerous.

Thank you all. We had decided to take her anyway even if it's for reassurance. Much appreciated. Will keep you updated as the info may be useful to us all. She's laid here playing and singing right now.

Mention you are worried about orbital cellulitis.
Hope it goes well.

Doctor checked out little one over. The swelling had gone down by the time our appointment came around. Doctor gave her a good thorough checking over and was happy with her. Told us just to keep an eye on things and it could in fact be related to teething as eye nerves are connected to tooth or mouth nerves. Can't really remember. Also said possible allergy but no signs of anything to be worried about.
Thanks everyone.

So glad everything is ok @Concernedhubby

Ahhh ok-so it could be linked to teething!! You learn something new every day!

Morning waffle. Yeah apparently so. He also said he'd seen a lot of babies that day with swollen right eyes and that it's quite a common occurrence but do always get it checked out. He was a nice guy very thorough.
