Lansoprazole for Reflux

Hi all,

We have been prescribed lansoprazole for our 6.5 week old baby. She is suffering from bad reflux. I was just wondering if anyone else’s LO has had this medication and if so, how long until you saw an improvement?

Thank you

No experience sorry but just wondering if CMPA and tongue tie have both been ruled out as all of the symptoms can be similar Smile

@JiltedJohnsJulie She does have a tongue tie actually but they said they weren’t going to do anything about it! Could this really cause similar symptoms? I wasn’t aware but then again, I am a first time mum!

Hi, my DD is on lanzaprosol and gaviscon, it was around 5 -7 days but it can take less.

Thank you @Babs5693 . As I said, I’m a first time mum. After weeks of desperation, I secretly wished we would see an improvement on the first night. Oh how wrong we were! At 5:20 this morning, with her in my chest, I thought ‘oh my word this isn’t working either’ until I did some of my own research and realise it isn’t immediate!

Have a read of this on tongue tie from Milk Matterss* and see if the symptoms are similar Smile

Unfortunately it’s not, I’m a second time mum and new to babies with reflux, it’s so hard, if it is reflux then lanzaprsol will work as we was told by the Pediatrician that’s it’s the strongest on the market. As your baby gets bigger the dose will need altering.

Evening all, my lg is 4 weeks old and has been diagnosed as CMPA and severe reflux. She is on Similac formula and we have been using gaviscon which has made a difference but she is still rather unsettled and unhappy a lot of the time. We have now been given lansoprazol to start tomorrow, and stop the gaviscon. I just worry that things are going to revert back to how they have been when we stop the gaviscon whilst we wait for the lansoprazole to kick in. Has anyone done this? How did you find the transition?! I'm desperate for her to finally be settled but in two minds about changing meds Confused x

Mine was on Lanzoprazole (zoton fastab) from 12 weeks and it worked very quickly to the point that I thought I'd overdosed her because she was napping so peacefully! She was weaned at 5 months and off all her medication (she was also on maximum Gaviscon) by 6 months. Solid food was a revelation to her and she's delightful now at 9.5 months.

Are you breast or bottle feeding? If bottle I would thoroughly reccomend hipp organic anti reflux formula. Worked wonders for our 14wk old. We were prescribed gaviscon etc but didnt like it .... had a docs appointment with a different doc by chance and they said we should try them although they cannot reccomend them as they cant prescribe them! Worked almost immediately- still get some flare ups where is is sick more but no pain and usually no sickness
