I have posted before but with no replies which I'm really hoping for now. 3 weeks ago my 9 month old DD developed a nasty, very loud cough. She then also a week later had a cold & was teething & went off her bottles completely for 9 days. I took her to the doctors 3 times last week. I was told it was viral but on the third trip was given antibiotics to try. The following couple of days she started her bottles again. Not sure whether the antibiotics had any effect or the virus ran its course by that point. Anyway. Last night & this morning she's back to no bottles. She tried to take them then screams & cries. I can only assume this is down to teething? She's happy enough in herself & we have managed to get other bits of food down her. Her cough is still very barking & raspy but not too frequent, a couple of times an hour. I just feel so anxious & like the doctors are missing something. Guidelines say coughs over 3 weeks need to be looked in to more thoroughly but I just know I'll get told it's viral & let it go. How long can these coughs go on for.. does anyone have any experience of something similar, & the possible teething issue? Last week I accepted it was teething but the fact it's only settled down a few days & now she's back off her bottles, could that also be teething again in such a short space of time?! Thanks so much.

If you're worried I'd go back to the drs. Both DS and I take ages to get rid of our coughs but I took him when he had a persistent one and they gave us an inhaler which helped a bit. Take it she's topped up with Calpol/ibuprofen? Is she eating her meals?

Yes she's eating food. She seems ok in herself, it just worries me that this only happened last week now it's happening again. She had about 10 gulps on the bottle tonight, before she starts screaming & we end up putting it on a Weetabix which she happily eats. As for the cough, she had a cough from July to November last year, never affected her eating but it sounded exactly like a croup cough, like a seal barking. Ending up seeing a paediatrician who said it was a mixture of reflux & a floppy larynx (lot of babies born with this which is the muscle in the throat being slightly floppy & they grow out of it) the cough stopped at the end of November but the fact it went on for 4 months gives me no hope for this although not sure what the cause of this one is. I don't get far with the doctors. Just get told it's viral constantly. Not sure how many months it needs to go on for for them to act. Thank you for your reply Smile
