6 month old waking at 4am

Help! We are desperate.

Up until 2 weeks ago our baby slept 6-6 with a dream feed at 10pm. 2 weeks ago he started babbling in his cot at 5am for an hour. He was not distressed or crying. It was annoying for us but fine.

A week ago he starts properly waking at 4am and we cannot get him back to sleep. We have tried white noise, cooled boiled water, teething gel, teething toys, once or twice Calpol, shushing, patting, rocking.

90% of the time he has a dirty nappy which we of course change and then it’s game over. I really didn’t want to feed him at 4am as we don’t want to keep doing it but we were desperate. He drank a massive bottle and then went to sleep.

Please help! Any advice please.

You said you can’t get him back to sleep, but you can, by feeding him.

It’s frustrating when babies go backwards sleep-wise but it will happen over and over for a while yet - so don’t get too stressed about “building bad habits” etc. The important thing is that your babies needs are met x

Sorry but posts like this make me feel sick. I bet there are a few babies starving at 4am because they are being annoying. Hmm

I would just feed him, he will probably stop asking for that feed at some point. Maybe he is going through a growth spurt they usually do around this time. Do you feed him before you go to bed? My son went through that stage of waking up for an hour or so at 4/5am I just fed him and put him down but it only last a week or so

Their sleeping/feeding patterns change a lot in this first year. I wouldn't be too concerned about a change in his sleeping patterns if it is easily solved by giving him a bottle. He's just hungry.

My baby is 5 months and she wakes 3-5 a night for a feed (inbetween being fed at 10pm and 6am)

Just feed him and go back to sleep.

They change all the time - mine slept through at 6 weeks, night weaned by 6 months but by 1yo he'd given up sleep and I was on my knees with exhaustion.

My one year old still has two bottles overnight - just feed your baby, he's hungry!

There's no need for the patronising, condescending reply. Here's me thinking mummy's support each other.
