Woolly wraps...

What do people that have these put under them for the nappy part? I use prefolds, so am guessing I will need to buy some shaped nappies to go underneath...?

Yup, shaped nappies - I use a variety. Bamboo are best for me for absorbancy, bumbles give a nice fit, fluffles/teddies are good for a bulky cute bum look

I don't use these wraps but I imagine The Nappy Lady would be able to tell you.

I found their advice service really good.

They aren't tight enough to hold prefolds in place becuase they wick through if too tight

oooo so r u telling me i shouldnt put my couche on the tightest setting and should have it baggy? stragely tonight i realised when i put it on (my son not me as im a bit bigger!!!) that i ordered aplix not poppers - guess its a bit late now (ive used it half a dozen times!!) but i thought how more adjustable aplix was when dragging over to reach next poppers - doh!

FlameBatfink · 30/08/2007 23:05

Couche might be ok... I can't remember tbh

nappyzone · 30/08/2007 23:07

ahh well - he was honking this am as been in fleece minki overnight - i defo find he pongs less with wool

pamplemousse · 31/08/2007 19:58

Yeah I could imagine a prefold escaping or something... I put her in a Bamboo Tots bots, whatever they are called the other day and after one wee she was drenched, I wasn't that impressed. What Bamboo's do people like? I like the super absorbancy of it in theory but didn't see it in practice

i find bambenio ones fairly absorbant, i find bamboo pocket inserts very absorbant. My fave under my wool has to be my bimbles - they have a pouch so i can stuff in a bamboo pocket nappy insert and that keeps em nice and slim and soaks up loads (hemps as good in em).

FussyGalore · 31/08/2007 20:34

know what you mean pamplemouse... has your bamboo been washed enough to increase absorbency? i am new to cloth too, and am a bit nonplussed at all the good stuff ive heard about bamboo, but am giving it time/a chance to prove itself...

ime it seems to absorb well but only in the spot at the wettest point iyswim... maybe this means its so absorbent the wetness cant spread further, and maybe it means the wetness doesnt spread in bamboo and therefore it can only absorb so much... i feel a blue water sanitary pad ad style lab experiment coming on

"i feel a blue water sanitary pad ad style lab experiment coming on "

Prof Flame!! Get the tongs and lab coat ready!

nappyzone · 31/08/2007 21:07

lol - she loves her lab coat!

FlameBatfink · 31/08/2007 21:17

Need to get back to the tests from before - got held up with various stuff

pamplemousse · 31/08/2007 22:38

I love that blue water idea! I have recently only been using prefolds Fussy so am not used to this all in one stuff! I had some normal tots bots when lo was tiny but now she's in size 2 I have her in Yummies for cheapness (council do a £5 loan scheme) but treated myself to some woolly wraps for nighttimes as she had such bad nappy rash and need to get something to put under them. I borrowed the bamboo one from a friend in a nappy emergency (ie left house with no nappies DUR!!!!) and was highly unimpressed, she's had them a while so assume she has washed them more than 10 times or so, she'd better - I converted her to cloths!!!
lOOKED AT bIMBLES BUT THEY SEEM ONLY TO BE SMALL OR AM i LOOKING IN THE WRONG PLACE...? Oh sorry caps lock

Ignore that I have found bimbles in different sizes. They look good, with a stuffable option. What do people think about the huggle by minki, slooooooooow drying but super absorbant??

micromummy · 01/09/2007 00:27

ds2 has bamboo prefolds from nappy nation which seem to hold pints (use as night nappy). don't know anything about shaped nappies...

nappyzone · 01/09/2007 19:13

pamplemouse - i have just been looking at the minki huggle and was considering it myself as it looks like a similar system to the bimble with the pocket gismo, and fold out insert which am i mistaken but also has a pocket on it? They do look huge though and i wonder if i would get it under my wrap! Saying that if its so absorbant maybe i wouldnt have to boost it so much - its also fleece lined which scores oodles of points for me as i dont like ading loose fleece liners (dont ask why its just another thing i have to hunt down on my nightly hunt for a nippa etc..) . Anyone using a huggle i would be interested on there opinions.. The baby blue looks nice though (sad i know!)
Researching night nappies is my life at the moment along with wool lol!!

FlameBatfink · 01/09/2007 19:56

Never really gotten on with huggles - they don't seem as absorbant for me as everyone says, and they are HUGE.

nappyzone · 01/09/2007 22:00

maybe i will just stick to my happy bimbles - i must get round to stocking them as they dry oodles faster than the bamboo ones and I am really getting to grips with nippas despite my aplix love! The only thing i dont like about nippas is you can never find em when my ds is desperate for his sleep and then i have to snaffle open another triple pack out of stock . I put together a stock order from easy peasy but got in a flumux with bimbles and bumbles as they do sized and btp grrrr - there some bloomin alike!

nappyzone · 01/09/2007 22:03

on the absorbancy thing i got carried away with a load of hype about the jiant - ok i use it but i just find it sopping on an am and hard to stuff and well really its just an old towel hacked up lol!!! 10/10 for recycling though! Maybe i wil elarn to love it but im too inlove with bimbles for a night at the moment! AM rambling now in nappy infatuation but that the Kuama kicking in!!!
