What the title says basically

I am really worried it'll make her poorly - she had also had a wee in it before she did this 🤦‍♀️

It was our first bath together and she kept putting her bubbly hand in her mouth!

It is harder to keep a baby steady than I thought...

Daddy showered her body off after and he managed to get a bit of that water in her mouth too (I usually do this and I don't think he was prepared for her moving so much)

Any advice much appreciated

She will be fine, please don’t worry.

She should be fine, if I recall, theres nothing toxic in it. Might have an interesting nappy but I doubt she'll come to any harm.

DivGirl · 21/01/2020 18:26

At long as she didn't swallow much of it she'll be absolutely fine. From what you've described it sounds like really she'll have had less than a teaspoon. Babies are more resilient than we give them credit for a lot of the time.

Give 111 a call if you're worried, they can arrange for someone to check her over. If she seems fine, is feeding fine, her normal self etc she'll likely be okay.

It's a worry when they are so little but products like bath oil are tested and have to be safe for the odd but if accidental drinking. I am sure she will be fine. I know how you feel though, I once squirted anti-colic medicine in my baby's eye, and my other child ate big handfuls of sudacrem from the pot. Both were fine!

supermodel · 21/01/2020 18:32

Please don't worry, she'll be fine.

pollyhampton · 21/01/2020 18:33

I promise you she will be fine, I understand your concern though. Ds1 fed ds2 part of a chocolate button when he was about 3 weeks old! I phoned my health visitor in tears who was lovely and told me not to panic, no ill effects!

SmileyClare · 21/01/2020 18:40

It sounds like she loves a bath which is good. I used to just hold their head steady by having my arm underneath baby's shoulders, head resting on your arm. They can then kick about and enjoy themselves.

It's only a concern if she's falling under the water and swallowing or inhaling great gulps of water? Nothing happened? She just put her wet fist in her mouth? Or a bit splashed her mouth?
There's no need to shower her off after either.
Congratulations on your baby.

Grobagsforever · 21/01/2020 18:44

Don't call 111. Babies can go swimming at six weeks, they swallow far worse then!! She'll definitely be completely fine, this must happen every single day up and down the country!!

SciFiRules · 21/01/2020 18:50

Don't worry, my children seem to drink gallons of it ... and I suspect wee in it!
Worst case is an interesting nappy!
Children are very robust.

Thank you so much everyone I feel much better Smile she's had a feed and currently napping. Has been a bit sick but that's nothing new! Thanks once again

It will have been really diluted in the bathwater :) Don't worry.

BTW - useful tip - if your baby ever does swallow soap or detergent, (more than this) you can use simeticone (infacol) as an emergency antidote. You give them a whole teaspoonful rather than the usual few drops. Then still call 111, obviously, but it's a useful first aid measure.

katienana · 21/01/2020 19:33

In future I wouldnt use the shower on her in case the water temp changes suddenly. I'm sure the water wont have done her any harm though

TruckstopTrudy · 24/01/2020 17:12

Glad she’s ok, definitely don’t worry. My dd now 2 had a fair few splashes in the face and still loves drinking the bloody bath water. The worst it’s ever done is give her a slightly runnier nappy and there’s no saying that wasn't something else.

Like pp said they will swallow water swimming and that’s encouraged anyway!

TruckstopTrudy · 24/01/2020 17:14

I honestly don’t think 111 would recommend anything, personally I’ve wasted a lot of time calling them, but if it would reassure you it’s worth it x

HappyHarlot · 24/01/2020 17:16

Mine used to hold the bottle of Johnsons baby lotion and glug it down. He's 25 now.

Try not to worry OP.

toomanyleggings · 24/01/2020 18:21

Lol bless you! Will be fine
