When to take to doctors

DD was in A&E in Friday night with croup. Was given steroids and peeled up very quickly. Was much better Sat and Sun just a little tired but since yesterday PM she has had a high temp. 39.5 at its highest but it does come down to between 38.2-38.5 with Calpol/Neurofen. She’s playing and chatting away like usual and seems quite happy she’s just very hot! Should I take to the doctors today do you think or see how we get on? I am working tomorrow and Thursday and she’s meant to be at nursery Confused

NHS recommend speaking to gp if temperature is 39 (38 if under 3 months)

Are you given calpol and nurofen at the same time? Or overlapping?

If yes, with that high a temp I would be going to the GP. My doctors are more than happy to see a young child.

If she is otherwise fine in herself and the calpol/ibuprofen is keeping temp generally below 39, I wouldn’t bother. There is generally nothing more they can do and I tend to think it’s better for them to just rest rather than being dragged out in the cold to be exposed to more germs at the GP.

Is her breathing OK - not rapid by any chance?

Only I had a very similar experience with my DD just before Xmas, the only difference was she was still breathing very fast along with the high temps. She was playing happily and didn't seem ill so to speak. Turned out she had pneumonia and ended up being admitted for 2 nights on IV antibiotics.

Thanks all, her breathing seems fine, not rapid.

I’m gonna take her this pm just to be on the safe side! It’s above 39 when meds wear off but about 38.4 with meds.
