Teething and pain relief

Hello all
My little girl started cutting her first tooth 2 weeks ago (she was 7.5 months for info). We have been giving one dose of calpol every night since it started. Every few nights we try and not give it and she just cries and chews on anything/ wants to nurse.
My question is....once the tooth cuts through how long on average will baby be in pain. I'm worried about it becoming a sleep association.
Thanks
Gemma

I don’t think I ever gave calpol just for teething. My two DDs started cutting teeth at 8 weeks, and I just gave them teething rings to bite on, and a dummy for comfort. They managed fine.

Different children deal with it differently.

Nurofen and anbesol liquid (not gel) are best for teething pain.

I am going to be upfront and say I have no kids (long painful story, whatever), but my siblings listened to my mother who said put a teething ring in the freezer for half an hour, and dip in Anbesol.

They all survived and it worked.

I found the few days before the tooth actually erupts seemed to be the worst time, and the top two teeth have definitely been more painful then the bottom two (my 8.5 m/o has 4 out so far). Lots of dribble, very unsettled at night, rubbing mouth with hands and biting me (argh!) seem to all be signs he has got teeth pain. I gave calpol and ibuprofen at night for a few days which definitely helped but like you I tried not to give every night for too long. Remember that there is a sleep regression around 8 months that occurs too...
