So whats with "Gina"? I have seen her mentioned a few times in different threads, I am assumming we are talking Gina Ford? Is she the oracle on parenting here then?????

Views differ WestCountryLass. Some people find her methods very helpful, others don't. I never got on with the GF books but I like Penelope Leach, and she is the subject of just as much lively debate!

don't you mean lay-dee

Marina · 30/09/2004 15:25

I do also have my Anne moments (ripping out pages and carefully date-stamping them all appeals, as does ANSWERING MY MOBILE LOUDLY WHILE ON DUTY). I have worked with more than one Lady in my glittering career.

Err, OK, I have no idea who Penelope Leach is...anyway, my favourite parenting 'expert' is Dr Sears. But I am glad to learn that this isn't Ginaville!

Yeah, I started coming here a month or so ago.

WCL, Penelope Leach is quite Sears-biassed. He's the American attachment-parent guru isn't he? I like what I hear about him.

He is indeed, I think he is great, here's a link to his site if you're interested:

So is Penelope the UK version of the same thing pretty much?

ks, easily confused me as still suffering from pregnancy brain and sleep deprivation but what explains what? (Me being new explains why i'm asking about Gina, I think paraniod)

You could always buy Gina's book and read it! She advocates strict routines, sleep and feeding times are very very rigid. Not for everyone but some people swear by it I gather.

I think she is the nearest thing in the "mainstream" parenting books market, WCL. William Sears seems to be little-known over here, you don't often see his books.

JuniperDewdrop · 30/09/2004 15:35

Don't worry westcountrylass. There was a heated thread that was rightly removed and they'll just have wondered how u missed it that's all.

I know nothing about GF. Thanks for the sears link, I'll take a look. Is he good for kids of all ages?

WestCountryLass · 30/09/2004 15:41

Ah, OK, it is all a bit clearer now!!!! I am not American, I live in Bristol (so I do know about Little Britain although rarely watch it as I have a 12 week little girl who likes to party in the twilight hours). I have read Gina Ford btw, but the other sites I visit are pretty anti her approach so I was a it unsure of how to tread in other threads when she was mentioned.

CountessDracula · 30/09/2004 15:42

WCL some on her are not keen but others are. Bit like real life!

WestCountryLass · 30/09/2004 15:43

Oh, he is mainly a baby, toddler, pre-schooler specialist btw :-)

pixiefish · 30/09/2004 16:14

looks on first glance to be my kinda doc... have to read a bit more though but from a quick glance he appears to be common sensical in his approach
