Almost 8 year old still in nappies at night - help!

Hello, my daughter is almost 8 years old and still wears a nappy at night time. She hasn't worn one in the day since she was about five and never has accidents, but we can't seem to get her out of them at night. Most mornings, her nappy is full and I'm not sure what to do. I thought by 8 she'd be out of nappies. We've tried the usual, no drinks before bed, making sure she goes to the toilet before bed etc, but her nappy is still full in the morning. What else can I do? On the rare occasion her nappy has been dry, we've tried her without a nappy but each time she ends up wetting the bed. I don't want to force the issue in case it results in taking even longer and I don't want to stress her but I don't know what to do

8 is within the normal age range for development. Go on the ERIC website for advise. Most children will grow out of it in their own time. Otherwise you are looking at Alarms or a prescroption of Desmopressin (which doesnt cure it but buys you 3 months) to allow for natural decelopment of the hormone

My son is nearly 8 and exactly the same. He's not just wet in the morning, he's absolutely sopping! There are nights when he has to change his pyjamas, not once but sometimes a couple of times. We bought an alarm off Amazon that goes off when a drop is sensed but, after 3 nights, ds refused to use it any more as he was fed up of getting woken up (this comes from the boy who has never slept a full night in his life and wakes me several times a night 🙄)
I don't know what the answer is so I'm going to watch this with interest but I just want you to know you're not alone (I also have friends with a 10 year old and 9 year old in the same boat)

How many nights did you try without a nappy on ?

Ok. Phew, it's good to know it's just us! We tried a few nights but every night there were accidents. I'll just give it time. Thanks everyone

Just wanted to point out that most shops sell night nappies up to teenager size because there is a market for them. Agree with looking at the ERIC site, it’s got some good advice.

My DS6 has only become dry in the last 10 days, he was in pull ups every night and they were soaked every morning so we weren't going to try. Then the other week he refused to have a pull up on so he went to bed without. We carried him to the toilet when we went to bed a few times and a few times we haven't,twice he woke up and went to the toilet himself he has been dry about 7 out of 10 nights. We have stopped ribena/blackcurrant as I read that makes it worse. Good luck, they can't control it and if they are a deep sleeper I think its just a matter of time.

Have you tried making sure she drinks plenty during the day?
