One month old sleep

I posted about this before, but my baby loves to mainly sleep during the day. At night she fusses and has witching hours around 8/9 to midnight. She then sleeps two 3 hour stretches for the night. Then one or two hour stretches during the day with short wake times like max one hour in morning 30 mins afternoon or 15 minutes here and there. She mainly fusses during her wake time, feeds and just wants to be held and go back to sleep! I’m wondering how to get her to have some more wake time so we can start to get her sleeping from 7-11pm (wake for feed) and then back to sleep until 3ish for next feed. My dd1 didn’t sleep much during the day so she quickly got the night routine down. Or am I supposed to just let her sleep as much as she wants during the day because she just fusses and cries if I try to keep her up?

Your baby is completely normal. Try and get her in the day light as much as possible. This can just be putting her Moses basket in front of the window when she is sleeping.

8 to 12 is classic cluster feeding time. Babies feed lots to increase breast milk supply/pre-load for the night. Even if you are ff babies don’t know this and have evolved to behave this way.

Thanks for the response and yes, that makes sense. She does like to cluster feed at that time. I’ve started to pump so I can give her one bottle of breast milk in the evening. I’ve got a good supply so have extra milk saved up in the fridge/freezer. I definitely need to get some more daylight on her. Wish weather was warmer! I tend to take her out in a wrap, so she doesn’t get much light because she is tucked in the wrap and not much light comes in through the window. We need more sunny days!!! Will make more of an effort though even w the clouds!

I would be careful what you wish for. When DC1 started sleeping the 7-11pm Stretch it coincided with starting to wake every hour from 11pm! I did nothing to bring bedtime forward, just happened naturally between 3 and 4 months I think.

Honestly, you’re getting amazing sleep for one month. DC2 is 4 weeks and currently sleeps about 45 minutes a night in the cot and the rest on me.

Lenny1980 I’ve already had similar. Lol. She only recently started to do two 3 stretches (when she sleeps w dh). W me she tends to do 3 hours and then wakes every 1.5 hours or 1 hour w me. But at least she does a 3 hour stretch. First 3 weeks she woke every two hours at night. I’m glad we are seeing minor progress. I suspect she lasts longer sleeping next to my dh bc when next to me she smells my milk. When she sleeps next to dh I go into the room he is in when I hear her cry to feed her. Then he will burp her, change her and put her back to sleep (this only happens twice a week because he needs his full sleep when he works).
