Help with birthday party!

Hi all,

We are organising a birthday party for our eldest who will turn 6. He has never had a proper big birthday party. We’ve done days out, small family gatherings and even trips abroad but never a proper party. This year he really wanted one so we’ve decided to go ahead.

We didn’t want too many kids so have invited 18, 4 of those are the kids of my friends and the rest are friends from his school. We sent the invites on Monday (the party is the 18) as I didn’t want to do it before the Christmas break so it wouldn’t be forgotten. The problem is that so far only 3 people have confirmed and I’m really worry that if people haven’t confirmed by now they are just not coming he is incredible exited about his party and we’ve even rented a big hall (our house is too small) Breaks my heart to think no one else is coming and also I find it quiet embarrassing.
Do you think there is still hope some people might answer back? Should I cancel the party? I’m honestly freaking out over here. Thanks

I think it’s too early to be panicking. You only gave out the invites three days ago and the party is still nine days away. If I were you, I would ask the parents at pick up time if they received the invite and whether their child is coming . Did you put an rsvp by date?

Is that 3 + the four of your friends kids so totalling 7 atm? If so then that’s not so bad and you can still go ahead with the party on those numbers, can you try talking to parents at school pick up? Or ask ds to prompt his friends? If you sent invites via school then they could very well have left them in their bag and parents haven’t seen them.

You only sent the invites on Monday! You need to at least give everyone a week. Dont forget most bags won't be checked till the weekend. No need to panic. What date did you ask everyone to RSVP by?

Thanks everybody for your answers. We only got 3 kids + my own one coming so far. I think a couple more are coming and another couple have already said they can’t make it, which is fine. Unfortunately I didn’t give a date to RSVP by! There are a few parents I can definitely chase at pick up, I will try that next. Let’s hope I get some more answers by the weekend!
