6mo grabbing at red and inflamed testicles

Hi all,

Bit of an odd one (or maybe not?) but I've noticed when nappy changing today that my DS has really been grabbing at his testicles, which is something he's never done before. I can't see any kind of rash but they do look quite red and inflamed. He doesn't seem any more distressed than usual and there aren't any other changes to his behaviour. I haven't changed any of the products we use inclusive of nappies, wipes, baby bath products, washing powder etc.

Has anyone else ever experienced this with their little one? I've just given him a good wipe down with tepid water and I've applied a thin layer of Sudocrem.

It goes without saying that I'll see medical advice if this doesn't quickly improve.

My DS is always grabbing his genitals so it wouldn't be unusual for us. I'd be getting a drs appointment if there's no improvement in the redness or inflammation- could his vest or car seat straps have been in wrong spot so trapped them a bit?

If it’s mostly just confined to the testicles and not an obvious rash on the skin surface, it’s possible it could be testicular torsion (basically where the testicles get twisted/inflamed). Do they look swollen? Either way, I would call 111 and get some advice. Testicular torsion is quite serious and needs to be treated urgently. I would be pushing to be seen out of hours tonight if you aren’t absolutely certain it’s just nappy rash.

Could be nappy rash? He could be grabbing them out of curiosity, my DS started to around that age

OP I would also be seeing a doctor urgently in case of testicular torsion. Hopefully it’s something sudofed can sort tho.
