Hi all,
My DS is 8.5 months old. We started sleep training when he started sleeping through the night (about 3 months old). Once he got into his routine he was fantastic. In his own bed by 7 - 7:30, and then awake again anywhere between 6 and 8.
He had a cold (little cough, sniffles, that sort of thing. Nothing serious) about a week ago. He's cleared up well enough. Make to his old self; laughing, playing, eating all his food/milk etc.
He had a few rough nights, but I figured he'd go back to his schedule (we kept it as best as possible, but with the cold he sometimes got up with a blocked nose) but he hasn't.
He's become a velcro-baby. The routine starts off well. Has his bath and bottle perfectly fine. The second we lay him down he screams. We leave him for about 5 minutes to see if he self-soothed like when we first started sleep training - but nope.
I've not heard him wail like this since we started sleep training. He stops as soon as I hold him. My boyfriend (his Dad) can't even hold him, and he's very close to his Daddy so it's very unusual that only I can settle him.
I find I have to hold him for a while, but I refuse to let him fall asleep on me because I don't want any bad habits starting. I wait until he's heavy-eyed and lay him back down. He screams - but weirdly enough stops when I place my cheek on his? Never used to need this. I'd play with his hair, hum a lullaby and rest my face on his head and then he'll finally sleep.
(Does my back in bending over double to reach him 😆).
I know him being ill would put him off sleeping but now he's better surely it can go back to normal?
Would there be any other reason he's acting up at night now?
My mum mentioned a regression, what does that mean? Is it a phase? Anything I can do more to help him sleep better?
(In case people want to know: he hasn't got any teeth yet, his teething doesn't usually bother him. His gums are a tad white in places but it doesn't upset him. I tried teething gel one night just in case but made no difference).
