Hole in gum, how long for tooth?

My 8 month old has been so niggly for about 4 days now. He hasn't got a tooth yet, but last night I noticed a little hole in his gum at the bottom which I'm guessing is the tooth coming through?

Has anyone noticed this on their baby and how long did it take for the tooth to come through? My poor baby seems so unsettled by it.

After the gum splits its anywhere from 12-48 hours in my experience until you can feel the first sharp little tooth corner :)
