When did sleep become reliable?

After a spectacularly bad night with my DS, I am trying to look forward to when times might be easier.. when on average did your DC's sleep reliably through the night or a good stretch at least?

Mine has been fairly reliable on the whole but he's only 4.5m so am aware it's by no means indicative of anything & we are in regression territory Xmas Confused

My DS started sleeping through the night on his own at 18 months, I didn't sleep train, he just learned to do it by himself. He was breastfed on demand until two and a half.

My current baby is six months, goes to sleep around midnight and wakes at 4 am for another feed. Again he's breastfed. It usually takes an hour to feed and settle him each time.

Things get easier after a year. My first didn’t sleep through until 3.5 but we co-slept so I barely stirred once she was old enough to not need a feed. Youngest is nearly 2 and wakes once or twice but it’s really very manageable. I get up for work at 5:30am and it’s fine, you adjust and I feel quite well rested.

6 weeks for both - bottle fed & strict routine. No crying either.

After 3 years until I had another baby.

At 13 months DS managed to go the whole night without a feed, but would still wake at least once and need resettling maybe 50% of the time. His sleep got really reliably good directly after the hellish 18 month sleep regression, so around 19 months. It will happen, but it's impossible to know when, and how each child will be affected by regressions

3 years for DC1
DC2 is just turned 3 and still waiting 😐

Before I had DS I would never have believed how torturously prolonged the evolution of baby sleep tends to be

JoJoSM2 · 23/12/2019 19:19

DS was formula fed and able to self soothe to sleep (no crying) by 3 months. He would wake up once for milk. However, he did have a massive regression and for several months was awake for 2-3h every night. He’s now 17 months and wakes up most nights out of hunger... He had a pint of milk last night Hmm

firstimemamma · 23/12/2019 19:48

At ten months old he would do it now and again (breastfed ds and dad and I very against all sleep training). By 1 he slept through every night.

My niece slept through from 6 months.

Good luck, it's so hard Thanks
