13 month old won't say mama or dada

So I'm not really worried just more curious as to when your babies said mama and Dada? He says his favourite teddy's name all the time and he says banana, but no matter how much I try to get him to say our names he just refuses!

Any tips on how to help him or do you think it's ok seeing as he's saying 2 other words?

Honestly, closer to 18 months but he was a big late starting

His first word was doggie (well GIEEEEEEEEEEEE!)

The only thing to help develop language is keep talking to your child at this age

DC1 talked early from about 10 months old she could string a few words together and sing the Hokey Cokey!

My other three were much later more like 19 months to 2. DC4 got a nasty virus when he was just over 2 and stopped saying anything for months.

My first was saying mama and dads around then. Second one would say dada sometimes but never said mama. One day closer to 15-16 months, he just started using daddy and mummy.

My eldest said mama quite early on around 9 months but my youngest 12 months hasn’t said it yet. I’m not worried as he’s babbling all the time. I’m sure it will come at some point.

My 22 month old still doesn't use it in context although when prompted can say both the words. Calls us both something else but the same. They are all so different - don't worry. I spoke to my GP recently about slow speech and they were not worried unless other signs of developmental delay.

At 2yr2mnths, ds finally said “key” as in car key. Then “cat” . We came a long way down the list. Grin

He has talked incessantly since.

Thanks for the replies, theyre very helpful! He said Dada the odd time, more so when he's not in the room or if he goes out the back garden, he'll shout it through the door. But he doesn't do it all the time and he never, ever says mama.

I think I'm just being impatient, I just find it weird that he can say his teddy's name and his favourite food but not the goddam person who spends all day every day with him! Grin

Mine chatters away but rarely says mama. Think it's because I'm always here. If I pop into another room while he's with his dad I occasionally hear him asking for mama.

My 15 month old said ‘cheese’ before ‘mummy’. I’m still ‘nummy’ 50-60% of the time Grin
