Depressive episodes lasting minutes after giving birth

Hi guys.

I had my baby 13 days ago.
For the past 2 days I've had, what I would call 'depressive episodes' lasting a few minutes. Their episodes where I feel severely depressed for only a few minutes. I then feel fine again. When I say 'severely depressed', I basically feel so empty and so alone.
Certain things trigger these depressive few minutes, sudden noises, certain family members talking, etc.

It's happened 10 times today- if not more.
I was diagnosed with anxiety and OCD in pregnancy. Which was hormonal induced, I believe.

Is this normal? I am so happy inside, I have a perfect life! Why do I feel like this?
Is this the start of post natal depression? :(

Keep an eye on it, baby blues starts around day 5 and can last for two weeks.... it is horrible but it does go. Talk to HV if you think you might be noticing the signs for PND, they should do a catch up with you soon that is focussed on your well being.

You’ve probably heard all the advice but be kind to yourself, accept help, eat biscuits, sleep when you can. Congratulations xx

Are you breastfeeding, and does it happen when you’re breastfeeding? If so it could be dmer which is a condition where let down triggers a dopamine crash and makes you feel terribly depressed, momentarily. I had it with second child. V weird

@gothefcktosleep thanks for your quick reply. I've had a visit from HV who won't be seeing me again as this is second child. Due to see midwife on Wednesday. I'm scared people will think I'm not coping :( xx

@wtftodo no I'm not breastfeeding. Xx

Oh classic second child light touch approach 🙄

It is probably a big rush of hormones going on. I had baby blues and I cried at everything.

Don’t be worried. If your feelings continue past two and a half weeks get an appt with the doc. I recently went to mine after LOTS of plastic coat hangers suddenly and mysteriously got snapped into tiny little pieces........ They will help you on the right track.

Are far as I know this is normal, in pregnancy, post birth and in general life. I'm a very happy single mum. Not much to complain about but I have the odd hour/day when I feel at a complete loss. Really despairing and panicky about everything or just completely numb. I assumed everyone did!
