Advice re car seats...please

Hi all, I have come to an arrangement with a friend to take and collect her son and my dd1 to/from pre school one day a week in September as she works fulltime. I am happy to do this but as the preschool is a good walk away I think I will be relying on the car and just walk if the weather is fine. As I have a younger dd2 aswell I already have 2 group 2 seats in the back and not really any room inbetween. Would I be able to put a booster seat on the front passenger seat (forward facing) for my friends son? I checked the government safety site and it seemed a bit vague, I know rear facing seats are a no no on the front seat if the car has an airbag but once the child is 3 it appears to be ok...anyone else who has 3 dc under 3 and a half to transport? Advice please...

You can put a forward facing seat in the front but I would do it only if you really can't get the seat in the back. Also push the front seat back as far as you can so it is further away from the airbag.

A high back booster seat rather than just a booster cushiion with the front seat pushed as far back as it will go is acceptable tho not ideal.

Thanks, I think my 2 seats could be squeezed over towards the windows to make a bit more room but that would make them less secure as they are centred where they are now...will try both options, does anyone else transport 3year olds in the front? I know it is not ideal but still the right side of the law I suppose? TIA

Yes, i have with the seat right back.

Needs must and in the front strapped in correctly is safer then poorly restrained in the back.
