Very paranoid FTM here!

My DS is 12 weeks old and has had what looks like an indented vein on his head since he was born. I didn't ever think much of it but googled it the other day (should never do that) and now really worried.

Has anyone elses LOs had this?

Can't really be of any help but have you tried calling the health visitors? They've helped put my mind at rest/advise on a lot of things with my 10 week old!

Or try & get a gp apt if it's worrying you?

pyjamarama · 05/12/2019 19:39

Entirely normal. Out of curiosity what did Dr Google come up with?

I can’t see it Confused talk to your HV if you’re worried.

@pyjamarama did your LO have this too? It's like a big vein with a couple coming off but feel indented.

Yes, they did. I’m also a surgeon specialising in children’s heads, which is why I was curious as to what you had found online that had concerned you.

That makes me feel loads better! Can I ask what it is that makes it look and feel like this? Oh I googled it and it came back with a cracked skull and all sorts of horror stories. I should never Google, I have anxiety anyway so don't know why I do it to myself!

Also it came up with craniosynostosis. He does have a mild plagiocephaly I don't know if this could cause it?

@pyjamarama MIL sent me a photo of him sleeping earlier which I've cropped down and this is a better picture, does this still look normal to you?

Yes. Normal. Stop fretting!

Nc1468 · 09/12/2019 16:52

Thank you 😊 it's sending my anxiety through the roof. So normal to have those bits coming off the side?

My now 9 month only had exactly the same. The veins used to protrude when he cried. Now he has more hair you don’t see it. Totally forgot about it until I saw the photo!

Nc1468 · 09/12/2019 16:58

Thank you! He used to have a full head of jet black hair and as it's thinned and faded it's so much more obvious! Did you ever get it checked out?

Normal! My baby still has this and shes 7 months next week she also has a little ridge I asked doctor and he said totally normal and will change when her head grows x

xJune88 · 09/12/2019 16:59

My baby also has really fair thin hair so I stare at her head every day and worry Haha but have to believe the dr x

mistermagpie · 09/12/2019 17:02

My baby had this and he was (still is really...) completely bald so it looked even more pronounced. He's 2.5 now and you can hardly see it at all even though he still has hardly any hair.

My BIL is a paediatrician and said it was totally fine and nothing to worry about.

Spanglybangly · 09/12/2019 17:03

I didn’t get it checked out. I just assumed it was normal to be honest and GP/health visitor would have picked up on it up if not.
