Started potty training DS1 (2.8) at the weekend...we have had a few accidents but lots of successes too mainly by constantly putting him on the potty. But what do we do when we go out for the day? Do we take a potty with us or put him in nappies? We are going to visit friends one day (2 hour car journey and they have nice carpets....)

Definitely put him in a nappy, but take a potty as well. I would'nt take any chances, especially with a long car journey and friends with nice carpets!

DO NOT PUT A NAPPY ON HIM!!!

I would say stay at home as much as you can for the first week. Take a potty with you when you go out, put in in your friends loo, show your DS where it is, and watch him carefully to see when he might need to go. Buy a piddle pad for the car seat (or Wetec pad) They are available on Amazon and various mail order catologues, but if you can't get one soon enough, use Pampers disposible changing mats. Explain to your friends you are potty training, and that sitting in the garden might be a good idea.

YES NO NAPPY.
make sure he goes before you get in the car, put an open nappy under his bum in the car and then take a potty + old towel with you. put this v. near wherever he is playing and remind him constantly.
