Booster injections

My 3yo ds is getting his booster injections tomorrow and I'm really unsure if I should tell him what's going to happen to try and prepare him or do I just take him and let the nurse do what she needs to?
Ds doesnt like going to the doctors, last time the doc only wanted to listen to his chest and he got very upset and was really crying.
Any advice would be grateful

I told my DD and I took her with me when I had the flu jab. I would tell him but you know your child best. There is a good Bing vaccination episode at the moment.

How did you tell your DD? I just don't know how to explain to him.

I said she needed an injection to stop her from becoming poorly. It will hurt a little but she would get a treat afterwards. She has a doctors set so me played with it and we did pretend injections. And then she saw me have my flu vaccine at the chemist.

I’m a practice nurse so I give these jabs.
It’s 50:50 parents who tell the kids first and those who don’t. Doesn’t bother me either way as I have a little patter I give the kids anyway.
Just tell him that he’s going to see the nurse for some special medicine that helps keep him safe from not very nice bugs. Or don’t tell him and just turn up if you think that’s better for him.
Definitely bring chocolate buttons for afterwards. It helps makes the ouch go away, but only the ouch of injections!

My daughter had hers today - we watched the Bing episode mentioned above and told her she was going for her vaccinations because she's at (pre) school now and all her friends are having them too.

The nurse had Peppa Pig on the computer for her to watch (I was ready with something on my phone if they hadn't) and I put a small bag of Haribo on the nurses desk and said she could open them when it was finished.

She did great and our nurse told us children who know what's going on tend to take it better. Good luck!

To add - daughter is a bit wary of going to doctor, so we told her she was going to see the nurse and that went down a lot better!

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'll show him the Bing episode in the morning before we go and I will take a chocolate lolly for him to have afterwards.
