Conflicting advice on weaning - milk amounts

LO is 5 months and started weaning (on HV advice please don't bash!)

Question is with DD1 I gave milk one before food as primary nutrition and just gave food (2/3 spoons) or until she pushed away to say full.

Took DD2 to get weighed and is piling on the lbs and I asked (another) HV when to start cutting down on milk and she said not too as it will happen naturally and that I should be giving solids BEFORE milk as otherwise she will think that milk fills her up so doesn't need food. I'm confused as this is completely at odds to what I was told with DD1!

Also, how many oz's in a day should I still be aiming for as she currently is doing around 27oz with porridge for breakfast, fruit for lunch and savoury for dinner. All AFTER milk.

Which is right??!!!

Thank you 😊

At 5 months, she should be having her milk as normal and you fit food around that. I offered milk first with mealtimes after about 2 hours later, give or take. The amounts of milk will decrease naturally on their own. But with both of mine it didn’t happen until about 8-10 months. I just continued to feed as normal.

Thank you, that's what I thought! Does milk sound about right though?

She normally does 7oz first thing in morning and last bottle before bed and then 5oz for another 3 bottles during the day.

Milk sounds fine. As you are starting early, milk should be first. 5 months is very early to be on 3 meals though. I gave milk first and solids about 1 hour later.

Many babies including mine are demand breastfed so they drank whatever they wanted. I gave food 3 times a day in the appropriate amounts

Lovely thankyou will continue with the milk before then. I thought it was odd when she said to do it after 🤷‍♀️
