Stairgate and skirting boards

Hello
I'm buying a stair-gate, which is proving really hard. I'm getting one that is screwed to the wall as it's for the top of the stairs, however I have skirting board. How does this affect the fixing, do you have to remove it?

I attached the bottom to the skirting, and added a piece of scrap wood between the top and the wall, to bump it out to the same depth as the skirting. Smile

Mine is attached to the wall above the skirting, I didn't even consider that when buying it. We have what I think of as "standard" 2-3 inch tall fairly thin skirting boards.

On our gate, each of the four points that attaches to the wall is individually adjustable, so I would expect it would be fine if mounted on a skirting board at the bottom and wall at the top.

If it helps, we've got this one:

Ours is attached over the skirting board. The gap is not big enough for my kids to get under (although it’s perfect for my very small cat)
