Using reusable nappies

My DS is 7 weeks old and we’ve been trying to use reusable nappies. We have little and bloomz pocket nappies but just can’t seem to get them right and he always ends up leaking round his right thigh. I was just wondering what inserts other people use and what combinations work?

We also have bambino mio nappies and they’re brilliant so I tend to use them at night and so far they havent leaked!

We used Terrys with nappy nippas and covers. They never leaked.

We were then given an entire set of ‘cotton bums’ which aren’t made any more. They have an insert which folds in 3 then tucks in a pocket at the front. They occasionally leaked but are slightly more convenient than terrys.

TBH nappy leakage isn’t really a concern once weaning starts.

We had full size (bamboo) insert in the pocket, then newborn (cotton) insert on top then liner. It meant that the nappy wrapped around the second insert better so the edges were actually pressed against the legs.

The little and bloom boosters aren't supposed to be that great - maybe try buying some different boosters to put in them? I've always used microfibre ones, but other people love hemp or bamboo. Unfortunately, it's a trial and error thing. All of mine are second hand so I couldn't tell you about which brands they were...

If you're having good luck with the Mios, stick with them! If they're the Solos, then you might have to switch to something else as he gets older and starts sleeping longer, they're not really a night nappy but I think I've seen some people say that they manage to use them.

I don't know anything about those particular nappies, but cloth with tiny babies is quite challenging. I wouldn't go buying any others for now that you can't use birth to potty or else you'll spend a fortune for something you can't use.

Terry clothes or muslins with a wrap would be one option though. I can't say enough good things about motherease wraps. They were eventually all I used. I literally never had a single leak with one. I used tots bots bamboozles inside them. Every baby will fit nappies differently, so these may not fit your particular baby, but they are very good.

The Nappy Lady gives great advice via email, and theres a FB group called Cloth Bum Mums which is good for advice. It all depends on the shape and age of your baby I think.

We started with tots bots bamboozles with motherease wraps over which is bomb proof. Now DD is bigger I use a mix of bamboozles, Bambinex, and Terry's with motherease wraps or wool wraps over the top. The wool wraps are easier than I imagined and never leak.

Thanks for the advice! Going to keep experimenting to see if we can get it right!
