Threadworms or thrush???

My dd 5 woke crying in the night that she was sore around vagina area, not itchy but sore. Looked a bit red but she does suffer from being red and sore there from not wiping properly at school I think but had never been upset like this.
So I put canestan on, said still sore so I gave her neurofen .
She eventually went back to sleep, I googled what it could be and threadworms came up. I checked her poo this morning ( the Joy's!) and cant see anything moving about. Says shes fine now not sore.
So should I get the threadworm stuff and all take it even though I've no actual evidence or treat it as thrush?

She also woke with a cold sore yesterday morning if that's relevant? Or should I see if its sore again tonight?

You can check for threadworms at night with a torch (glamorous I know), but I would think she'd be complaining of an itchy bum if that was the cause. I wouldn't treat for worms unless they're is more evidence. Same with a fungal infection, I'd have thought she'd complain of itching (although scratching could then cause the pain). Maybe worth a trip to the doctors if it continues, but if it was me I'd probably try a soothing and healing cream, something like savlon. I ain't no expert though! Or perhaps even a nappy rash cream like metanium could help?

Could be "nappy" rash from not wiping properly.

I would just wait and see how she feels tonight. Threadworms are easy to spot. I just had my dc bend over and it was obvious. They’re horrible. They usually infect the digestive tract first so if there is no middle of the night itching of anywhere else, it’s likely thrush. I would treat as thrush and see what happens.

I found a worm in DD1s vagina once - they do migrate. So I wouldn't rule it out...

Thanks I think I'll see what tonight brings!
