How do I get DS (6) to flush the loo every time?

Am sick of finding wee (and accompanying smell). He used to be brilliant at this, now he's got really lazy. Presumably, he's not washing his hands every time either. I have moaned and pleaded - any ideas?

You have to keepm moaning and pleading and hope he has got the hang of it before he's married
OR on a more sensible note you could try a note on the door along with a reward chart when he rem,embers

Worry when your H uses the toilet, forgets to flush it and then have a go at you for not flushing it even when nobody has been to the toilet since he last used it!

Is he maybe a bit scared of the flush? My dd2 went through a phase of that (as indeed did I) - used to think a witch would jump out when it flushed. We got over it by shouting down to the witch, then flushing, then skipping down the landing singing "ding dong the wicked witch" etc.

Or is it just my family that are scared of toilets?!!!!

Not scared of the flush at all... and ALWAYs remembers after poos. Is sheer laziness, I'm convinced of it. (Plus he also thinks he's being clever - sometimes I catch him coming out of the loo with a wicked grin on his face).

perhaps one of those smellies that sit on the iim? flushing causes bubbles, woudl he like that?

although i had to buy a plunger when mine went down loo and clogged up system/! [blush}

It's a man thing, it starts when they are potty trained and doesn't get any better when they are almost 40.

Dses never flush the loo, regardless of what they have done. DH doesn't flush after a wee (if we have visitors he does) as he says he is "saving water"

My 2 ds (and occasionally dh) are the same. I think it is because at school or in public toilets they use a urinal that they don't have to flush. I think they flush intermitantly, but am not an expert you understand.

just gettig round this with my 5 year old...

quite simply he i always asked if he has flushed the loo, and when he hasnt he is sent straight back to do it.... after several months he is finally remembering about 90% of the time

we've just come back from holiday and on our return i wentto the wee only to find one already there that one of the dsses had done before we went.

We'd been away for 2 weeks!

and he'd missed the bowl, and peed all over the seat.

and we'd had viewings trying to sell the hpuse while we were away.

Ha ha LadyTH - the loo was the last thing I checked before our hols - for that very reason!

Am pleased to report he's getting better - am now letting him have a sticker on his normal chart for flushing. It rankles tbh, but hopefully when he's used to doing it without thinking again, i can drop the reward. ("Oh well done darling, you've inhaled and exhaled. Have another sticker")

Does he need to? I'm from Brisbane where there is a major water shortage, and people are actively encouraged NOT to flush the toilet every time.

I was told by my 6 year old niece when we visited - if it's yellow, let it mellow!

We only flush after poos or a few wees, and have hippos in the cistern (not real ones). Did you know that the amount of water used in one flush is more than one persons daily allowance in parts of the Third World?

He's right - you shouldn't flush every time - only after poos. If you flush three times a day enstead of every time, you can save a huge amount of water. He's a natural born environmentalist!
