Baby fireworks noise

Hi all,

I am just wondering if any of you have taken your baby to a fireworks display and had issues or been fine with hearing in the future?

I took our 6 month old baby to a display with the intention that if she was scared I would leave but I wanted to take her as she loves being around people and seeing new things. She wasn't bothered by it all, you could see her getting slightly startled at times and looking in bewilderment at the display but she seemed to enjoy watching it.

I didn't think anything of it until I noticed something today regarding hearing loss and how sensitive babies ears are at such a young age. I hadn't realised a one off situation could do so much damage. We arrived early to get a seat and were therefore quite close to the fireworks albeit they were going off at a distance from the closest seats. There was also a dj and music on. So the sound would have been very loud. We were there for about 45 minutes with 20 of those being fireworks along with music.

I feel so stupid and worried now thinking I have potentially put her at harm from not thinking properly.

Her hearing does seem fine since she is still startled at noises infuse I have to tiptoe past her room as she can wake with my creaking floorboards however I am aware that hearing loss does not always present itself straight away.

Anyone with experience of this that can help advice me would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi OP - aargh, we do torture ourselves don't we? Am sure your LO will be fine but bumping this so that others can come and reassure you too.

I took my DS 7 months to a display... similar length of time and absolutely fine. Both my children as babies have been to events with music/djs on and both have excellent hearing.

The youngest watched half of the display then snuggled in for a sleep. This same child wakes if a packet is opened at home Grin

I took my 4 month old to our local fireworks last weekend. I had a bit of a look around the house for our baby ear defenders but they had gone missing, but we went all the same. We were also quite close and I was a little concerned about how loud it was while we were there but he seemed totally unfazed by the whole event. I’m sure your baby will be fine. It was a one time thing, and if your worried, just buy some ear defenders for next year, although you rarely see them on kids at fireworks (just other consistently noisy events eg festivals).
