I need pro parenting advice for giving up soothers

I'm summoning the strength to get this done. Can anyone recommend a book that was helpful? My dc is three in Jan.

Any tips to getting it done?

I quietly have a concern that dc may replace the soother with his thumb as he LOVES the soother. Has anyone experienced this? I'd prefer a soother sucker than a thumb sucker because I sucked my thumb for years - can't take those away!

DC was obsessed with dummies at 2.5 years. We took them to a toy shop one afternoon, she could choose some toys and we 'paid' with the soothers. We talked about it for a few days before, and made a big deal on the day, and bringing the toys back home. I was surprised by how well it worked - a little bit of crying the first night then no problems. I was expecting all kinds of hell but it was totally fine.

I was concerned about thumb sucking too, for the same reasons. She never replaced with the thumb though. She is now very attached to toys and a blanket, a few months on.

Sausages that's very reassuring and inspiring. Thinking of doing over Christmas with plenty to distract him and time off work to cope with the sleep deprivation
