Weaning + rash on cheeks?!

Hi all,

I've just started weaning my 6mo and the past few days after giving him parsnips, peas and mashed potato on the evenings I have noticed red rashes form on his cheeks. This is the only symptom he is having and is fine otherwise.

Any idea what it is? Thanks.

Well it could be an allergy. It’s not likely (although not impossible) to be the parsnip or potato. I do know someone who is allergic to peas but it is rare. Is it just after food? Does it go away?

Both my dc reacted to using baby wipes to clean their faces do I changed to a wet face cloth which seemed to clear it up.

It could also be unrelated to weaning so teething, the cold weather or a cold coming on.

Yes as PP said, are you wiping his face a lot more? DD got some dry cheeks for the first couple of weeks of weaning and I finally realised it was because of all the face-wiping. I changed our routine slightly and made sure to moisture her and it's been fine since.

Could it be teething related?

Hi guys, thank you.

He's just cut two front teeth but I'm not sure how it can be related as the red rashes only appear after eating. I have just fed him some sweet potato and the same has happened again, it seems to be all food at the minute?

No one in the family has any food allergies whatsoever so it would seem odd if he's allergic to all of these foods that were giving him. The rash appears straight after eating, doesn't seem to bother him and goes within an hour or so. What do you think? I don't wipe him with a baby wipe if he gets particularly messy but I don't think it's that as I usually wipe him sometimes

DD had the same when we were weaning her. She is allergic to peas, lentils and nuts. We went to the doctors and got referred to an allergy clinic. They did tests and she was diagnosed with allergies to those foods. It's worth keeping an eye on it. We didn't realise the allergy was peas to begin with and kept giving them to her but the reaction got worse each time. We took pictures of it to show the GP.
