Period if breastfeeding

Baby is now one and I am not breasfeeding much, just evenings and sometimes nights for comfort. However, my period hasn't returned yet.
Is it normal? Do I have to stop completely for it to return? What's been your experience on this?

I got mine back about 6 months post partum. Could you be pregnant?

bluechameleon · 21/10/2019 16:03

DS2 is 20 months and mine hasn't returned yet. From what I hear on the breastfeeding FB group I'm on it varies massively.

Pinkflipflop85 · 21/10/2019 16:17

Mine didn't return for 3 years.

Same as you OP. DD is 12 months and nothing yet either. Keen to TTC again soon so I hope they come back soonish.

WhiskersPete · 21/10/2019 20:39

I read somewhere 14 months is the average for bf mothers

mindutopia · 21/10/2019 21:22

It can be normal. I got mine back at 3 months pp while breastfeeding round the clock about every 1.5-2 hours! And it has been like clockwork, every 28 days since. So there is a huge variation on what's normal.

LeaderoftheAteam · 21/10/2019 21:24

Mine returned at 13 and 14months for each DC. Completely normal.

MummytoMatildaX · 21/10/2019 22:34

Hi, my daughter is 14 weeks old, and I have already had my second period! I had the first at exactly 8 weeks pp, then the next, 5 weeks later. I wasn’t expecting it to return so soon, as I know it’s normal for period not to return for a long time.

AgentCooper · 21/10/2019 22:37

I was 16 months and they took a while even then to settle.

Thatnovembernight · 21/10/2019 22:55

I got mine back at around 12 weeks pp both times despite EBF for a year or child.

Mwnci123 · 21/10/2019 23:03

About 14 months with first, 13 months with second. I wouldn't worry.

Macaroni46 · 21/10/2019 23:10

After 9 months with my first DD. Only had one. Was pregnant again after that! Can't remember with DD2 but as others have said, it varies hugely.

DramaAlpaca · 21/10/2019 23:13

There's a huge variation of normal on this, as I've learned from reading threads on here. Mine came back at four months postpartum while still ebf. I was pregnant again three months later.

AbbyHammond · 22/10/2019 13:03

Mine didn't come back til I stopped feeding overnight.

Mrsmummy90 · 23/10/2019 23:56

It's completely different for everyone. Yours may not come back until you stop completely.

With dd1 mine came back after 7 months and dd2 they came back after 6 weeks 😫 both ebf.

If you're concerned, speak to your doctor but personally I wouldn't be worried x

chloechloe · 24/10/2019 12:40

Mine didn’t come back until I stopped BF completely at 12 months with my first two babies.

Confused866 · 24/10/2019 12:44

First child it came back at 15 months (I was feeding a bit more than you are though) and second child it came back at 12 months. I’ve heard that it’s the night feeding that delays it more so if you’re still feeding at night that might be why, I’m sure it will return soon. Everyone’s different!

BaronessBomburst · 24/10/2019 13:21

Mine returned at 6 weeks despite feeding round the clock. I was most put out!
