They aren’t excluded from nursery

Bit grumpy but otherwise over with in a few days

My DS had it within the first couple of months of nursery. If I recall correctly he was ill for 3/4 days before the spots came out (just when we were at Centre Parcs. Delightful!) with high temp and sore throat and was dribbling loads (couldn't tell us at the time though). Then the spots appeared and we kept him off for 4 days. They begin to blister and burst and I think once they've scabbed over all is well (bit like chickenpox).

I think some nurseries differ in what they'll accept. Ours didn't accept them back until they'd scabbed over.

Word of warning though - you can catch it as an adult and it's usually way, way worse for adults than children. I caught it about a week after DS and had a 40c temperature and was hospitalised for a couple of days as the pain was so bad - I couldn't swallow or walk because of the blistering.

As PP said, my baby caught it but it was very mild and only got a few spots which lasted about 6 days. I got it and I’ve never been so ill, I would rather give birth than go through that again. So be extra careful with hygiene/hand washing!! X
