Weaning - help

I’ve recently started giving my little girl some fruit purées and while she seems to like it while they’re in her mouth, getting them in is another story. It’s been a few weeks and we’re getting nowhere. I’ve tried my own fruit purées (mango, apple, pear) some sweet potato too and then a couple of pouches of Ella’s kitchen, also baby porridge mixed with expressed milk.
She just gets really angry after a few minutes. I know weaning is a slow process so maybe I’m just being impatient.
Any tips?
She’s very tactile and wants to touch everything she sees and everything is going in her mouth at the moment so I’m wondering it I should just try her with finger foods instead? Slightly nervous of this because she’s no teeth yet but any tips on soft squidgy finger foods we could try?
Thank you!

How old is your little one? Soft finger food is worth a try, the NHS webpages are very good for ideas. Make sure she's not hungry before you start, it should be about exploring food to start with. You can do this! Grin

If she's 6 months plus, finger foods would be a good idea, the fact that she doesn't have teeth doesn't matter - the teeth are all there, just under the gums and babies are capable of biting pretty hard.

Before our DS had any teeth he had avocado, banana, roast potato and sweet potato, omelettes, pancakes etc. as finger foods. They've got strong gums to munch soft foods!

As long as old enough I would try finger foods, my baby goes through stages of not wanting to be spoon fed and wants to eat herself.

My little one has no teeth is nine months old and eats cubes to cheese, ham, crackers, avocado, mash spuds, chopped spag bol, anything we eat she always has some

Definitely try finger foods if she's over 6months. Sticks of well cooked carrot or broccoli are a good start. Slices of tomato or strips of toast for her to suck. Anything really. Or you could mush food or stew some apple/pear/plum and just put blobs onto her tray if she's quite tactile, especially if you're not quite comfortable with finger foods yet. Just ditch the spoon if she's not keen. They do very quickly get used to controlling food in their mouth after a bit of gagging!

You don't have to start with purres you can start with finger foods and sharing family meals 😘 check out baby led weaning for beginners and beyond on Facebook ton of advice for real food there. Also you don't need to mush food or waste time blending it saves you money and you let baby feed themselves this helps with the chewing motion in the jaw rather than the swallowing motion from puree. Ovb up to babe how you wean

On another note baby doesn't need teeth to eat

Harrysmummy246 · 14/10/2019 15:23

If you pop your finger in baby's mouth (clean) and let them bite down, you'll feel how hard the gums are....

For the record, I didn't feed DS a single puree, ever. He started with christmas dinner

Thanks @orangejuicer I had a look ages ago for some good idea but I’ll pop back and make myself a shopping list from that!!
