Sparkle for boys

I have a 5 yr old boy who likes a bit of sparkle, but the only sparkly clothes he really sees are princess dresses. We do have a few princess dresses in the house and I have no problem with him playing in them, but I wondered whether anyone has any suggestions for other types of outfits he could wear, just so he has some options. Do sparkly prince costumes exist and can anyone suggest where to look for them? Can't spend a fortune.... Thank you!

no practical advice but I love him already!

What about those sequin tops that can change pattern? Or sparkly accessories.

CanICelebrate · 06/10/2019 21:11

H and M sequin tops. My 7 year old has six different designs Grin

You can get sequin waistcoats for dance shows (some on ebay). You could probably get a bow tie and maybe a top hat to match. A party/fancy dress shop might have some.

My son loves the sequin tops that a pp mentioned, from H&M and Primark.
He can’t walk through Superdrug’s without sticking his finger in glittery eyeshadow and wiping it all over his face 😀

CanICelebrate · 06/10/2019 21:13

They do stuff like football and batman ones as well as other more general pictures and patterns. They are really sparkly and they change colour/ design as you brush the sequins up and down

Next and H&M do the flip sequin tops in the ‘boys’ section, DS has a sparkly silver shark and a glittery green dinosaur one

A reversible sequin t-shirt?
Last time I was in primark they had a lot of boys ones with various characters on them.

Danascully2 · 06/10/2019 21:16

Ah thank you - I should have mentioned he does have a couple of sequin t shirts I found which weren't specifically girly and didn't have cringy slogans (I wouldn't buy those for girls either!) One was even in the boys section in Tesco which surprised me, although admittedly I don't spend much time in the shops (we're rural) so I'm not all that familiar with what's out there. He is growing out of them though and not yet showing signs of growing out of the sparkle phase. Hmm, accessories is a good thought, I wonder whether you can get sparkly bow ties for kids? I will be going to bed soon so if I'm not back until tomorrow don't think I'm ignoring you!

Was jumping on here to say boys H&M tops are more sparkly than the girls ones lately and so nice. My DS has a sequin Minecraft too from Next.
As for Prince dress ups maybe look at the Frozen 2 boys outfits.

BendingSpoons · 06/10/2019 21:34

Oops sorry about the crazy long link.

RandomMess · 06/10/2019 21:42

Sparkly belts?

Mummy1224 · 06/10/2019 21:58

What about iron on patches from places like Hobbycraft (or probably cheaper online)? Could be cool to add them to jeans etc.

Also you could buy him a cheap plain T-shirt and some glitter fabric paint, and let him go nuts Smile

SproutsRock · 06/10/2019 22:03

Wear some sparkly necklaces, add sparkles to an outfit!

Paxleh · 06/10/2019 22:08

My 8 year old was also envious of his younger sisters sparkles and sequins. We bought him the sequined flippy tops from handm (he particularly liked the rock and roll ones - cool and sparkly). We also bought him a prince's outfit in tk maxx which has a red jacket with sparkly gold brocade. Tk maxx costumes are good value, no better time to look they are gearing up for Halloween so had loads in yesterday. He loves greatest showman, so has used it for that at school dress ups several times, but it also made a great Prince (minus the top hat and cane that came with it) to his sisters Princess Belle at Disney and got lots of compliments. Another item he has is a red with gold sparkly pinstripe Indian shirt (I bought it while on a business trip - but bet a search on the Web would find one reasonably priced).

Not clothes but DS loves glitter and this tattoo kit was his favourite Xmas present, we've been using it all year!

I saw some boys t shirts in primark (not b ethical I know) that were superhero with flip sequins (eg 2 different characters) there were loads to choose from

PixieDustt · 06/10/2019 22:47

Brilliant for dress up!

Ooh thank you, loads of good ideas there, thank you! It would be good to have something he could wear to dress up days/school disco as I'm afraid I draw the line at him wearing a princess dress to school events - I tell him it would be hard to wash if it gets dirty, which is also true...
