1year old refuses to sit in high chair

My 1yo has not been keen on her high chair since learning to walk at 10 months. I thought this might pass but nearly 3 months on and it is still a problem. She went through a phase of completely refusing to be sat in it and screaming so we had a bit of a break and did picnic style eating until she started wandering around too much. She now lets me put her in her chair, but won’t last a full meal. She still seems hungry and will often then be upset and hungry within an hour. Milk feeds are going up rather than down. I have tried different foods, finger foods and spoon feeds, different objects to keep her interest. If I try to keep her in when she wants to get down she screams and refuses to eat. It also seems worse when there is more than me at the table eating.

My DD did this. Eventually we gave up and let her sit on laps and then kneel up on a normal chair. She needs to have the option of moving around and hates being hemmed in. It means we don't have model mealtimes but she is learning to come back to finish off / clear her plate as her attention span improves. It's easy to feel we should insist on a hidden code of good table manners but our DC haven't read the books!

Have you tried the booster seats that attach to chairs mainly used for out and about if they don’t have a high chair but I have friends who have used them indoors so they can sit at the ‘big table’ and feel a little more included?

We had this. Daughter is three and has never used a high chair. She just wouldn’t sit in them. Didn’t see the point in forcing her so we had her on laps a bit til we found this. It worked a treat and the best thing is it’s very portable for eating out. And very easy to clean.

I got the small table & chairs from Ikea and also a MAT to put under it. Used to sit her up to the table in front of the telly (terrible I know) and she ate fine from then on.

Thank you for all your responses, it’s nice to know it’s not just me! I did try both booster seat and mini table and chairs a while ago, but will give them another go. She was a bit small for both last time I tried them.
