Potty training in one week by GF

I am on Day 4 of training my DS (2.5) and have been using the book Potty Training in one week. I am still having to sit DS on the potty ever 1.5 hours and just hope he delivers there and then. The book however suggests that he should be left at this stage to go and sit on the potty when he needs to, tried this today and he didnt get to the potty once. Should I peservere or go back to sitting him on the potty at regular intervals?

How long does it take for them to realise and take the initative and either go to the potty or tell you before they have done it in their pants?

perhaps he isn't ready yet? DS1 was 1 week short of his 3rd birthday when he got dry - DS2 about 2.11. 2.5 is still quite young really.

Hate to say with boys its better to leave them longer than girls to potty train. Both my ds's took a long time to train and I am convinced it is because I started too early. DS1 was 2.11 and ds2 was 3.2 but with dd she is self training at 1.9 with no pushing from me.

I used that book too and found the timescales somewhat optomistic!

We have had some success today, DS told me on two occasions he needed to use the potty. Think bribing him with a trip to the Zoo may have helped, hopefully this will continue tomorrow.
