How often do you have ‘stranger danger’ alerts from school?

I have just received an alert on my DS’ school app, saying there has been a ‘stranger danger’ incident and to keep safe etc. My DS is now in yr 3 and I would say we have had one of these alerts each year so far. Starting to concern me a little.

I’m just wondering if this is the average amount of incidents at primary schools? For context, it is in a busy suburb of a small city. Several other primaries nearby. I’m a high school teacher, in a rural school and in the 13 years I have been here we have only had two or three scares.

They happen fairly regularly at schools near me (I see them on facebook) and without exception they are bogus, people getting the wrong end of the stick or deliberately causing trouble. I can't recall any that have ever ended up with anyone being caught for trying to abduct a child

None in 7 years. Large town.

Never. Nor have I ever heard of one that has been genuine rather than ridiculous Daily Mail style "paaeeeeedo" kneejerking.

Never in 9 years of schooling in a big city

Once in 7 years so far - someone had tried to grab a child at a primary school 7 miles away.

Morgan12 · 30/09/2019 16:16

I've never even heard of this.

Never - and we live in a London borough. Maybe your child’s school has a lot of nervous parents?!

joystir59 · 30/09/2019 16:24

About 1 a year here. They are genuine alerts where an attempted abduction has taken place.

Never happened to us - have two children at primary school in a large city.

gostiwooz · 30/09/2019 16:28

Once maybe every couple of years. Usually seemed to be some bloke sitting in a small van which happened to be parked near a school.

mnahmnah · 30/09/2019 16:49

That’s the thing - no more information. So no idea if it’s just someone looking a bit odd or if someone actually approached a child. One occasion it was a child being approached. This time it just says a ‘stranger danger’ alert!

It’s a ‘nice’ middle class, professional, sought-after area. So maybe previous parents too, yes.
