Help me feel better please??

My son is 11 weeks old and today we've had a brilliant day. He's started sleeping through the night, we've been to mum and baby yoga, chattered away with eachother.

Until earlier this evening when he scratched himself under his eyebrow, it's quite a long scratch pretty much the length of his eyelid. So I cut his nails while getting him onto his pajamas after his feed, I took him back downstairs, queue a very unsettled screaming child. I burped him, changed him but he wouldn't calm down, no idea why he was crying.

I'm sure you can see where this is headed

DP took him off me to calm him down as I had dinner in the oven. He eventually manages to calm him down and our son is now sucking his fingers, he takes a look and brings out son through to me in the kitchen. While cutting his nails I've managed to nick his finger.

I feel bloody awful, not only has he scratched himself but I've hurt him to boot. Please please can someone make me feel a bit better about myself?

Oh please please don’t worry or beat yourself up over this. Babies nails are so hard to trim and I did this myself and promptly started filing them instead of cutting. It’s fine and he will be fine.

Honestly, these things happen. When my ds was about 8 weeks he slid off our sofa onto the floor, totally my fault, I left him too close to the edge and wasnt close enough to stop it. He landed on the floor on his bum and just howled in shock bless him. I felt terrible, my poor tiny baby hurt and scared and all my fault. Hes 20 months now and makes it his mission to injure himself, it seems. And my dh and I laugh about it. But it was truly awful at the time, I think I cried more than he did!

I did this! I have a friend who did the same too, and I'm sure there's many many more people who have done it. Babies nails are incredibly hard to cut. Feels awful to have accidentally hurt your LO but please don't beat yourself up!

We did this too 🤦‍♀️
Now I only cut them when he’s asleep, makes it a whole lot easier and faster!

Thank you all!! I do feel better knowing I've got company in doing it!

I might just steal those ideas @onemorerose and @Areallthegoodnamesgone

I did this too! I was beside myself all evening but it was OK. I don't know anyone who hasn't done this!
