What toys does your 18 months old like?

I'm completely stuck for Christmas. I don't plan on buying much stuff as I like to grab bits second hand so we already have
-ride on horse toy

  • cars
-buggy and baby -fruit and veg to chop -wooden stackers -lots of cuddly toys -soft stacking cubes -inflatable type ride on toy

I know baby will get toys from family and we will put a good chuck in savings (doubt that will be an option when they can make a list for Santa...) so I'm stuck on what we can get?! What toys does your 18/20 months old love!?

at that age my dc liked their balance 'bike' (it was more of a tricycle like this, which can be constructed with 2 or 3 wheels and so grows with the dc)

Bellsofstclements · 24/09/2019 19:07

Toy kitchen
Shape sorters and posting toys
Crayons & stickers

My 20 month old loves dinosaurs and jungle animals...

He also likes playing with trains on a track/cars on a garage etc.

He hates a bike/trike/anything ride on!

I've got him some small world dinosaur sets, a wooden portable train track from the studio, getting him a wooden garage too.

Tbh probs won't get him much else as my 4 year old wants loads that actually both will play with!

Will have an 18 month old at Christmas too so will keep and eye on here. So far my list is..

Toy kitchen with pots/pans/food
Books
Clothes
Vtech toot toot castle
Vtech toot toot cars

I'm also debating a Kindle Kids Fire .. mostly because she hates the car but will watch stuff and (most of the time) it distracts her from screaming.

joffreyscoffee · 24/09/2019 19:34

She already has a balance bike, rocking caterpillar, megablocks and loadssss of shape sorters because they're her favourite

Divgirl2 · 24/09/2019 19:37

Currently have an 18/19mo. He likes biros, cutlery, USB cables, the washing basket, the Weetabix box, that bloody stick man book. He has no interest in any of the well thought out, developmentally appropriate toys I have bought.

I'm getting him a toy kitchen for Christmas - in the hope it keeps him out of mine!

Natsku · 24/09/2019 19:38

My 19 month old loves Duplo and cars/tractors

Bellsofstclements · 24/09/2019 19:44

@Divgirl2 ha ha, do we have the same child?! DS would happily switch the WiFi on and off for hours or put the key in the front door and turn it....

Dd will also be 18 months at christmas.

She is getting some Playmobil 123. She already has some of her brother's and loves it plus likes playing with the proper stuff. Wooden animals to add to our existing collection. Balancing game. A bit more duplo.

This: www.janod.com/en/62-multikub-circus.html and www.janod.com/en/372-story-box-circus-wood.html

We already have a couple of those story boxes (the safari park and the fire station) and they are loved by both dc.

She also loves playing with the toy kitchen, happyland (although ds hated them at that age), train table, toy cars and ride on stuff.

My boy is a bit older now but from being about 12 months has been completely obsessed with blaze and the monster machines cars. They do little toddler hand sized ones. He literally has had one in his hand for nearly 2 years!

PerfectPeony2 · 24/09/2019 19:58

DD is 15 months and likes anything that isn’t a tall...

Her favourite thing is to play outdoors with stones, pots and mud. I’m thinking of getting her one of those mud kitchens, she does live her playhouse though!

switswoo81 · 24/09/2019 21:22

Aside from the remote control I bought 18mo dd a lovely little tent in Tiger the other day and put a few toys in there. She loves it in there.

Toot toot garage is the favourite in our house! (It’s bloody annoying though)

Watching

MeadowHay · 24/09/2019 21:44

My DD will be same age so thanks for this thread. She isn't walking yet though and at the moment loves push alongs to walk with. She had a ride in her friend's electric toddler car which she seemed to enjoy but they are £££ and I think technically meant for older toddlers. She also likes books that make noises or have touchy feely bits or flaps etc she can engage with. Anything ITNG or Teletubbies too.

Chillisauceboss · 24/09/2019 22:10

Great ideas thanks everyone.

Toy kitchen is on the list from grandparents which is lovely. And I did have my eye on the grimms rainbow too...

Like most responses the most played with isn't anything from the toy box but putting anything she can through the cat flap/ posting through the rails of the stair gate.

If I was handy I'd love to make one of those fiddle boards I've spotted on Pinterest - the huge boards with locks / keys / zips / plugs etc

We have three different Grimms rainbows. Never played with unless I get them out and set something up but even then not really. Good job they look lovely!

The Lanka Kade animals are popular and he loves the hammer toy thing from IKEA.
