Hi my 3.5yr old (non verbal) DS hasn’t been himself since yesterday. He has a fever and very tired today but no cold or any other symptoms. His temp is 38 on his head but his belly is 39.6’c 🥵 I’ve given calpol and he’s gone to sleep. Any ideas?

You aren’t supposed to take temperature on the stomach OP. If you have one of those sensor ones then you only take temperature on the forehead. Anywhere else will give an inaccurate reading.

Check again on his forehead about an hour after calpol and see if it’s come down. A temperature in itself isn’t necessarily bad, it can be a sign that the body is fighting an infection.

Is he eating and drinking and weeing as normal? If not and his temperature won’t come down the I’d call 111.

If you are concerned then call 111, but they will also tell you that a stomach temperature reading isn’t accurate.

There's a lot going round at the moment. My 3.5 year old has had a fever on and off for 4 days, a sore throat and she's also very tired. Her temp has been 38.5 - 39. The NHS website has some great advice, and I would say only give calpol if your child is miserable. A fever is the body's way of fighting off illness.

If you're worried do call your gp or 111.

Thanks, I don’t usually do it on his belly it’s just because it felt so hot to touch. His temperature came down to 37.5 with calpol he’s woken and seems to have a sore throat and struggling to swallow, not eating much but drinking and weeing ok.
I’m an over cautious ftm 🙈

My 2 year old has had a fever on and off for 4 days, eaten barely anything and refused to drink. I’ve been given calpol and ice pops - it’s a nasty little virus but she’s perked up today

It’s a good sign that temp comes down with calpol. If he is drinking/ weeing as normal I wouldn’t worry too much - there is lots going around.
