Cot safety

This is probably a stupid question, so please forgive me!

How do babies not bang their heads on the cot bars? When they're rolling all over the place, sitting, pulling themselves up etc?

Background - My LO is almost 8 months and co sleeps (unplanned, we've had an awful time of it). He's getting much better with his sleep and I want to try to get him into his cot soon, but he roams all over the double bed at night, and is practising sitting himself up in his sleep and flopping all over the place. He's forever banging himself or face-planting, and I can see him easily injuring himself on the cot bars the way he flings himself around. Am I missing something?

I don't think you're missing something. DD does occasionally bang her head on cot bars and the ends of the cot but she also bangs her head just playing during the day. I don't think it's as big a deal as you're thinking it is.

DS did this for a few weeks and then obviously learnt where the bars were so stopped. It was at its worst when he was trying to crawl, stand and cruise.
