Trying to come up with some rules on iPad time

Any advice?

I think it depends on so much:

How much other screen time does your 7yo have? I’d be tempted to restrict iPad time if they were watching a lot of tv or having a lot of computer time.

How responsible they are with accessing stuff on the internet and chatting to people on games.

The type of things they do on the iPad. If they’re using it for educational activities or innocent games then I’d give them more screen time than if they were wanting to play violent games or mindlessly watching youtubers then less screen time.

Their attitude. If my DC show a bad attitude towards others then I’ll limit their screen time more.

How much other stuff they have to do. Perhaps have a rule that iPad time comes after other responsibilities like learning spellings, practicing an instrument etc...

Agree with above post, but also taking into acount my inability to track everything he's doing, I've settled on:

no screens on school days, full stop. Turns em into monsters and I can't be doing with it. That's telly and phones as well as tablets.

Fri after school - Sun afternoon: set a 3 hour timer. Switches off automatically when times up. Loses time for giving me attitude when needing to come off for other stuff.

Simple and works for now...

Ours earn time on devices by doing exercise and chores. No credit no play.

Also can lose all access for not stopping when asked.

Rarely on screens during school week. No screens upstairs/at bedtime. Pretty free rein at weekend if sport and homework are done.
