Anyone else struggle to chat to other mums?

My DS is 17 months old. I've attended various baby groups and met lots of friends through them and through mush. I never feel like I have anything in common with these women though. I go meet them and our children play, but I always end up feeling crap afterwards, as I don't have anything in common with them.

I used to be a successful software developer, I love music and like to knit. I'm now a sahm. I've always got on better with men. Now it's like all of a sudden I just don't feel I fit in with anyone.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, tbh I struggle to talk to anyone let alone other mums but please don't feel crap about it your interests make you you. I suppose it depends if you're looking for mum friends, so you can organise play dates etc. or a "real" friendship

Well at least you made some friends .... I managed to spend a year on mat leave and make 0 friends. I have precisely 1 local friend who I met through my hobby.

So yeah I can totally sympathise.
Like you I struggle to talk to people and often feel like people don’t take to me.

I worry my DC won’t have any friends as we’ve never had a single play date Sad

YES. I really struggle. I worry that my social awkwardness / shyness is interpreted as aloofness or unfriendliness. I’m just not great at small talk. You’ve done well to make friends tbh OP. That’s most of the battle. Actually having stuff in common with people, well, I find that’s quite unusual for me. Real friendship is a rare and precious thing which i’d love to find amongst the other mums but we don’t really see each other enough to forge that kind of bond I don’t think.
