What should my baby sleep in?

Hi all,

LO is 2 months old. Until now he’s slept under blankets (varying clothes depending on the heat). Now it’s getting chillier I am thinking about moving to sleeping bags (especially as he kicks all the blankets off!)

My groegg reports that the room is about 20-21 degrees pretty consistently. According to their guide, he should be in a 1 tog bag. According to the tag on the JoJo MB sleeping bag, he should be in 2.5 tog.

I think I’m leaning towards 2.5 tog with a long sleeved onesie (no vest). But I wanted a soundboard and reassurance (or otherwise!).... does this seem right or have I got it completely wrong?

Thanks!

I use the online gro checker as a guide gro.co.uk/what-to-wear/

Personally my DS prefers to be a bit warmer so is in 2.5tog most of the time (apart from the crazy heatwave) and then depending on room temp various levels of pjs

I'd do the 1 tog and sleepsuit .

21 degrees is quite warm so I think a 2.5 tog sleeping bag would be too much - is it one with sleeves or sleeveless?

The GroEgg advice is (I think) based on info from the charity Lullaby Trust so may be more reliable that JJMB - I dont know where they get their info from.

If in doubt it's better for baby to be too cold rather than too hot.

Maybe I’m a cold person. Our house does keep relatively warm (as in it is never particularly cold) but I’m starting to feel the chill in the evenings. Lounge gro egg says 21.5, DH and I are both in thin jumpers but both moaning it feels quite cold.

I only seem to have 2.5 tog bags, maybe I’ll buy a 1 tog and see if that helps inform the decision.

Personally this is why I loathe bloody groeggs with a passion because they make new mamas paranoid their going to let their baba get hyperthermia or overheat.

In the winter months and you don’t have the heating on. Vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag should be fine. You can always leave the sleeping bag open when you put them down at bedtime and then zip them up when you go to sleep.

Yes you’re not wrong @KissyThief! I bought it to help with the heat over the summer (which tbf it did) but now it’s just confusing me. Especially as all these guides are slightly different. I’m going to avoid overthinking it so will just keep him in blankets until I definitely know it’s too chilly
