Are you a guardian?

I’m really keen to get the issue of who should be our kids’ (3yo and 4mo) guardians. Ideally it would be their grandparents however they are getting older now and I’d be worried if the worse happened the kids would be left with caring responsibilities or having to move again after an already traumatic time. We could ask our siblings but my sister is already completely overwhelmed with her own two and dh’s brother lives abroad. I would like to ask dh’s cousin who lives close to us, has two kids and a similar lifestyle/values to us but how do you even broach this? It’s such a crazily huge ask, how could you ever ask someone to take on two extra children? Is anyone here a guardian? How do you feel about the prospect of the potential added responsibility during a time of huge family grief? Am I overthinking this? Thank you!
