8 month old wakes hysterical for an hour each evening

My 8 month old DD used to go to sleep around 6.30pm and sleep until 10pm then have milk and go straight back to bed. She now almost always wakes around 9.30/10pm and screams hysterically and won't settle for up to an hour. Last night I changed all of her clothes/ fed her and ended up giving her calpol as I ran out of options. Eventually I got her back to sleep and then she slept until 4am and fed normally and went back to sleep.

This has been going on for about 10 days now - the hysteria is always at that time of the night. She doesn't have any teeth through yet I've considered teething but it's a complete guess as the gums don't appear sore. She's happy and smiley the rest of the time. Any ideas?

8 month sleep regression? We were up for weeks at strange times and then it stopped.

Could it be night terrors or is 8mo too young?

My 2yo sometimes does this and has for a while. He would start crying and being really upset and couldnt really be consoled, which is not like him at all. Usually really placid. He'd pull away from us when we tried to cuddle him and if anything we seemed to make it worse.

Eventually I read about night terrors and it explained that he is not awake when this is happening- hence why he behaves so differently to our attempts to comfort him. So now when it happens I just lie him back down and sit with him until it's over. It's difficult at first but actually it takes him far less time to settle back down and he gradually relaxes again.
